Two 1.00 T-shirts never looked so good

Aug 18, 2010

T-Shirt #1
First, I cut out around the V-neck of the shirt, chopped the sleeves shorter and took in the sides to make the shape more feminine.
(It was a men's small)

T-Shirt #2
This was a crew neck men's XL. I used it to cut 65 double layered 1-1.5 inch circles. (Not perfect circles)

Then, I doubled up the circles ant pinned them on the T-shirt #1 where I wanted them.

Last, I sewed them all on using a zig zag stitch on my sewing machine.
This part took the longest.
I had been searching for something like this and was disappointed not to find it anywhere that wasn't ridiculously expensive.  So what do you do when you can't find that missing link to your wardrobe? Make it your self! I love rocking this shirt with a pencil skirt or even jeans... or shorts or...

  19. Super cute! I love it! I made a top very similar to yours. I think maybe next time I find some time, I will attempt to copy you :) I love how you added circles on the shoulders! It's a very nice touch! Love it!

**Question: Did you just stick the circles in twos and zig-zagged stitch all the circles right down the middle?**

  21. This is a great idea, especially for plus-sized women who sew..I'm not one of them, but love the idea of it, so maybe I can talk someone into it for me..also would be nice to vary the shape of the neck, say, an oval, rather than vee front..?
    thanks!

  23. wow! I love it! I am going to have to try that!

  24. I wanted to share this, this weekend my daughter had a dance comp. in Michigan. A dancer came out for a solo and made this shirt and wore it for her solo. She made it longer with slits up the sides, it was perfect! Keep up the great work ladies!

  25. I loved this idea! Here is the shirt I made from your tutorial, I think I might have made my circles a little too small or just perhaps sewed the circles to close together. I still love it though! P.S. I couldn't get a photo to post but if you go here: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150160492158570&set=a.133700333569.108785.579873569&theater you can take a peek! Thanks for the tutorials!

  29. Is there a particular reason why you cut the first T-shirt?  Couldn't you have just sewn the circles around the original V-neck?

I think it's a GREAT idea and will try it as soon as I finish all my other projects!  ;)

    ReplyDelete
  30. you totally dont need to chop the neck of your shirt if you dont want to... we are just so fond of that deconstructed look...  send us a picture when you get it done!

  33. love this- maybe ad buttons to the center of each flower

    ReplyDelete
  34. That is real cute.  I love it.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Wonder how she finished the neck???  I can see where the second shirt was frayed where circles were cut out, so am not sure the circles won't fray too.  I love this, though and will try to think of something tat will work but not fray. :)  Any ideas???

    ReplyDelete
  36. we use jersey... totally doesnt fray! its like magic... you never need to hem it! probably my favorite fabric to work with...  if you look super closely the top isnt frayed at all, its just where she cut some circles super close together and it left a bit of fabric... seriously try it, its super easy!

PS~Another tip: Once your creation is made lay it flat to dry and I always reshape the circles a bit. :)
    GOOD LUCK!!
