something i like more than shoe shopping

May 23, 2011

It had been months since husband and I had been on a Temple date and I was so excited to go. I packed up my little Temple bag and couldn't wait to be in the Lords House...
When I got there I discovered that my two year recommend had expired and it would take a few days to get a new one.  I walked away under my husbands arm and tried not to cry.
Then I thought...."I'm pregnant and allowed to cry"
So i did.
All dressed up and ready to go.

Leaving the parking lot my sweet husband asked what I wanted to do.  Shoe shop, movie, restaurant??? But all I wanted to do was go to my Temple. I wanted to feel that rejuvenating power that uplifts me and feel that special closeness with God.

I finally went a week or so later and loved it.
I know this is religious but I thought I would share something that makes me SO happy.

I have forgotten my recommend to two out of three siblings weddings....it has become a family joke.  But I cried both times.

  4.  Love it, Soph! I just finished a 3-week lesson on the temple for my Laurels and went each week in between to prepare. It was so awesome, if only we all had the time to go every week. But with small kids, that is impossible. You are quite the stylish temple go-er!

  5. Awhile ago my husband and I traveled out of town for a wedding---I had everything ready to go...cute clothes...great shoes...jewlery shoices...but when we got to the temple I to noticed my reccommend had expired.  I cried in the parking lot while my husband went to support our old highschool buddy and his new wife.

It was sad.   But now my husband and I always renew our reccommends at New Years so niether of us are caught all dressed up with no where to go.

I did that last time too.
How far away is yours? We are closest to Columbia, SC which is 1.5 hrs away. Not too bad, but not too close either!

The temple is such a beautiful, spiritual place and the fact that it's somewhere you WANT to be is wonderful.  So I think it's perfectly ok to be sad that you weren't able to go.  As an emotional pregnant lady myself, I would have cried, too.

With Jesus, you can be close to him always, we don't need a temple to be near to him, we just need to bask in His love and grace:)

amen!! I feel rejuvenated, every  time I talk to Him, anywhere, anytime, praising him for his amazing love, and asking for his grace and help to get me through each day :)

We can always be close to Jesus. I hope I didn't sound like going to the temple is the only way. Thanks for your comments:)

What an amazing gift to be able to be so close to the Lord all the time! It definitely takes work and I'm gonna keep doing my best to get there too!
    Thanks for your comments! :)

Oh that is so sad! I would have sat in the car and cried too.  Situations like this really help me to realize that my testimony of temples is stronger than I think and that I really do love being there.
What a great tradition too. I may steal that idea! Thanks for sharing!

I'm not a Mormon, however I have a strong Christian identity. I truly understand and love that you felt that way about being close to God. You don't have to be the same religion to understand why something is important to someone. Thank you for sharing.

Poor you hun. We we're discussing it with our yw on Sunday - just talking about it makes me feel so blessed. I need a temple trip this week.

I know what you mean.  I love the temple too and I had a similar experience.  My sister was getting married last weekend in the temple.  The wedding was at 1:30.  At 1:00 I was all dressed and ready to go.  I pulled out my recommend and it was expired.  My husband said I'd never make it but I called the bishop and the stake president, they both met me at the stake center and I made it to the wedding on time.  It was a miracle!

At least you have your priorities straight - since, as much as we'd like to, we can't take any of our shoes with us when we die.

Inga you are the best! I feel the same way. My friend Mary that I quoted a few posts back is Catholic and she is so inspiring to me all the time.  We don't have to believe the same exact things to understand each other or to be inspired by each other. Thanks for commenting.
    Lots of love~
