Big bow skirt

Oct 6, 2010

This was really fun to make. It started by taking a couple ideas and rolling them into one!

I know you all are probably over seeing the elastic waistband skirt on our blog, but I LOVE it; it is easy to wear, I always feel cute in it AND all the cute elastic waist band skirts in the store are always waaaaaaaaaaaay to short.

You all know how I feel about bows! I made my bow with a some differences to this TUTORIAL FROM SCRAPS AND SCRIBBLES.  My bow was actually a jersey knit sash that I found at the dollar store and I made the center tie like the scraps and scribbles post. I LOVE how it turned out. So girly and modern at the same time.

I also switched it up and added pockets to the skirt. I don't think I can emphasise enough that I am a BEGINNING sewer, but the pockets were not as hard as I imagined and the skirt came together with out much trouble.... for example.... me huffing and puffing with frustration at my sewing machine.

Here is a picture of the pockets in process. You just sew along the out side of the pocket and the skirt with the right sides together then turn it inside out and  VWA LA! pockets!

I googled pockets and elastic waist skirt and Freshly Picked has a nice pocket tutorial HERE.

I am loving my newest skirt! It is totally something I am going to wear a lot!
