30 Minute D I Y: Cardigan embellishment

This project from start to finish took 30 minutes!

1. Cut out one inch strips of fabric. (Smaller or larger depending on how big you want your flowers.)

2. Cut a (fairly even) square out of your strip. This makes it easier to make sure your flowers are all the same length. TIP- Be sure to use fabric that won't fray!!!

3.With the corners as your guide cute out four petal flowers. I cut out between 34 and 36 flowers.

4. Now find the cardigan you want to use. I would lay out the petals in the arrangement you want so you like how it looks and so you are sure you have enough.

5. With thread similar to the color of your flowers stitch them on. (I used 2-3 larger stitches per flower.)

SEEEEE so easy!

Sis #2 made this one... the very first dress she has EVER made!

 Burda Style has tons of free and really cheap patterns to print right at home... Soph and i have tried a few. i LOVE the "popover sundress" by oliver and s totally adorable and super easy beginer project (you can only get the free pattern through burda style)

i added a ruffle to mine (don't my kids look happy)

let me tell you a story... about a van and a beautiful pair of shoes

This is a post that i wrote almost 2 yrs ago  on my personal blog about beautiful shoes... and mini vans

Just a little background before i start complaining.... i drove a sky-blue Toyota Previa in high school so l love mini vans... its not about the van really, its how i receive the van every WED morning. The van belongs to my father in law but i use it on a daily basis and he uses it tues night and sat morning...

THIS is how it looks... who needs carseats when my kids could just sit on newspaper bundles....

Literally, not a stitch of garbage in this van belongs to me or my children and the worst part is i always forget its gonna be like this, so im running out the door trying to get Eva to school on time and i have to heave these bundles over the backseat (that weigh as much as i do, by the way) i want to SCREAM!

people must really think i "live in a van down by the river" (as  the late Chris Farrley would say)

too bad i dont care that it looks as if i spend so much money on shoes that i live in my van and recycle news-papers to get my 'fix'....

these shoes almost cost me my life,

alright maybe not my life but seriously i nearly caused a five car pile up. i was driving home from work daydreaming about BOGO when i realized the four cars ahead of me were stopped at a light. No big deal i had plenty of room and time to stop. so i go to take 
my foot off the gas and my beautiful new guess pump slips and my heel catches under the gas pedal it was literally stuck so i start screaming obscenities and bracing my self for impact with the bumper of a little yellow Mustang... just in time i pulled my foot out, slammed on the brakes and screeched to a halt. i was shaking the whole rest of the way home...
LESSON: when breaking in brand new heals, always bring driving flats (of course if you get pulled over switch them back quickly)

Last but not least i had to post this picture because Syd literally burst into hysterical laughter when i pulled up to her house with the van looking like this.. i hadn't even noticed and drove around the entire day before like this and was too lazy to care at that point... the one day my husband drives the van he parks under a light post....... Cora says "Naughty burdy! no poo poo on da car, poo poo in da potty!"

Fix a slit thats too high = Wear your favortite skirt

My favorite skirt and my favorite man.

Ever get a fabulous skirt and the slit is a bit to high?  You desperately want to wear the skirt with out showing too much leg but if you sew up the slit you will end up taking baby steps in order to walk. 

So here is the answer!!!!

The Slit Insert

1. Start with measuring your slit top to bottom and side to side.

2. Fold a piece of fabric over once and cut into a triangle shape on the fold to match the measurements you took. Cut your triangle a bit wider so you have more "give" when you walk.

3. Pin the edges of  your fabric.

4. With a sewing machine or by hand sew up the raw sides of your triangle.

(You don't have to do this part, I just wanted a more solid piece of materiel to work with.)

5. Tack it down in a few spots. (I just did this by hand at the top, bottom, and middle sides of the triangle.)

6. Wear your favorite skirt!!!

How to: Fabric flower headband

1. Sew together the raw edges of a 2 inch wide strip of fabric. (You Don't need to sew the edges together, leave the edge of your strip raw for a differnt look)

Here are a few finished strips.

2. Gather them with a needle and thread.

3. Continue to gather around using tiny little pick up stitches on the back of your flower.

Here are some finished flowers.

4. Use buttons or beads to complete it. I loved the blue beads.

5. Cut out a piece of felt to use as a backing to your finished flowers. (I decided to attach only two together)

6. Cut elastic the circumference you desire. I got 3 yards of soft elastic from Walmart for 1.35

7. Using hot glue lightly attach the elastic to the back of your fabric flowers.

8. Finally, attach the felt to the back.

You are done!

I made this headband for my little friend Reagan for her first BIRTHDAY... but big kids like to make and wear these headbands too.

Mens T-shirt transformation

(at this point in my little "photo shoot" i was getting a pinch annoyed that my arms weren't like a foot longer than they are)

What you need is;

 a mens T-shirt,

 scissors,

 one of your own favorite shirts (for size)

 and coral toes... yes, my toes are in the picture

cut off the sleeves

cut off the neck

lay your favorite shirt on top and cut the sides off leaving an extra half inch for seam allowance

with your extra fabric cut a few strips and pin them any way you want (i pinned the strips from one shoulder to below the opposite armpit)

Stitch

then, right sides together, sew from armpit to the bottom down both sides

all done. ;)

now, quietly raid your husband/boyfriend/brother's closet for more shirts to make fabulous..

First you go to payless and scour the bottom shelf for sweet deals...

(these little beauties were 5 bucks!)

then you raid your scrap-fabric for 2 long strips and run a gathering stitch down the center

(set your machine to the longest stitch length and then pull gently on the bobbin thread to gather)

check out Ruffles and Stuff for some simple sewing tutorials

I wanted mine to fray so i ripped my strips and pulled out some of the threads so they look all fringe-y

whip out your glue gun..

AND

TA-DA!

I found City fit Jcrew trousers HERE...well, they were an IN STORE find. 

Downeast has a website (for those who don't live in Utah) and they sell cute/modest clothing and swimwear.

If you are lucky to live close to a store you will find past season Deisel, American Eagle,  and JCREW clothing for a discounted price! They also sell discounted designer jeans!

I love a good deal.

TJmaxx is also a great place to find brands from places like Nordstom for less.
