Stained Tee recycle

there are so many cool ways to re-vamp an old Tee and make it new again... especially if you have little girls!

 i made this one ages ago, by hand (i used to be crazy) it was an old Aeropostal top that had a stain right down the middle.... so i chopped that stain out by cutting a strip about 3 inches wide out of the center front and back.

 stitched it back together and added grosgrain ribbon and big huge buttons down the front 

gotta cover up that pink butterfly...

fix those gaping sleeves...

a little pin here and a tuck there...

all done, super easy! 

i have washed this shirt over and over and it still looks great...

(i have a fear that everything i sew will fall appart as soon as i wash it, so i am always surprised and relieved when things survive my horrid laundering skills)

Fancy Cardi: For the love of bows PART 1

I found this plain white short sleeve cardigan for Eden at a thrift store and I wanted to embellish it in an interesting way...

I thought, A bow would look so cute, of course!

You know me.

First I cut out a long strip of mesh grey fabric about 3 1/2 inches in width.

With sewing pins attach your fabric where you want it.

Using a zig zag stitch attach the fabric to the cardi.

I added this lace on top. Really to cover up all my horrible stitching.

When I added the lace I attached one side first then puckered it and pinned it before sewing the other.

My goodness I love this girl!!

I am just DYING to try this on a "Big girl" Cardigan... SO many possibilities.

DIY: Whimsical baby style

 Little Lacey Shirt:

You will need~ A foot and a half of lace. Acrylic felt (the felt that come in sheets at craft stores for $0.35), thread that matches the lace. & a shirt with a logo you aren't crazy about.

I found 5&1/2 yards of double layered cream lace for 2 dollars at a thrift store and I was dying to embellish something with it...

SO .. I cut up 4 pieces that got gradually smaller then sewed them on with a tight zig zag stitch. I used felt to go on the inside of the shirt opposite to where I was sewing so all the stitching didn't weaken the fabric. I cut out a bib shape of felt about the size of my lace embellishment then trimmed the edges when I finished sewing the lace on.

EASY right? ... lets be honest I don't like doing projects that aren't.

Whenever I shop for my 11 month old I love finding for things I would wear...

Scrappy Petal Tank

 i have WAY too many stupid scraps!!! i always tell myself i will make some sort of cute hair-thing out of every little tiny extra nothing... who needs that many freaking hair-things!! well... ok... my girls think they do :)

i was having a tinkerbell moment when this came to me...

a cute pink tank from H&M

check out that price (totally made my day)

tons of scraps cut into big fat petals

(i NEVER measure... sorry but big or small this will be adorable!)

make little "petal sandwiches" right sides together

stitch the the curvy edge leaving the straight edge open

trim

flip right side out (press if you want... but i'm lazy so i didn't)

i used 12 or 13 petals and over lapped them a bit

i let Eva pin them in a circle and put them in any order she wanted

all pinned together it should be about 1 1/2 times the width around your childs hips

run a gathering stitch ( the longest stitch setting on your machine) along the straight edge

GENTLY pull on the bobbin thread to gather your petals (there is a ton of fabric so go slow or the thead will break) until your petal skirt is about the same width around as your tank

attach  the skirt to the tank with a zig-zag stitch

after the zig-zag is in you can either pick out the gathering stitch or stretch the skirt till it breaks...

i added some YOYOs to the neckline because it needed an extra little something!

Embellish a Onsie: Part 2....easy peasy.

In the summer I always want to put my daughter Eden in "easy outfits".... Hence, the embellished Onsie, it doesn't get easier than that!

To start I cut out circles of white Jersey Knit fabric (Doesn't fray!)

I placed them on  shirt trying to figure out where and how many I wanted... I chose Three 1inch circles with three smaller circles in the center for each shoulder.

Next I used my sewing machine (Set to zig zag stitch) to sew them on the shoulders. Or you can hand stitch it if you don't have a machine.

I made sure to place the stitches on the edge where the fabric is thicker to make it more durable.

Set three on each side about a half inch apart....

and you're DONE:)

I put a bunch of these on the left side of the neck of a white tee... (Bigger of course)...for our Momma on Mothers Day!!

Add some pretty petals to your swim suit: DIY

Before:

Step One: Pick a plain suit. I bought this suit last year on the Gap Clearance rack for 6.98. At the time I was large and pregnant and hoped for a better slimmer summer the next year.

 Step Two: Cut out squares: 2 inches by 2 inches (I never really measure every single one it takes too long, I just mostly guess)

NOTE: You have to use dance/swimwear fabric. It feels like swim suit materiel and drys like it too.

 Step Three: Fold in half. 

 Step Four: Fold in quarters.

 Step Five: Cut out heart shape. See Selina's post here for another explanation.

 Step Six: I cut the heart in half because they were a little too bulky and hand sewed them right on to the suit with black thread. I used 2-3 tack down stitches for each petal.

After:

Sister #1 and I live petty FAR apart, she is in Michigan and I am in Utah...

In our dreams we are neighbors.

So to make the best of it we Skype and talk on the phone just about everyday.

We clean our house and blog with eachother just hanging out on the phone.

HAHA so today I am talking to my sister on the phone and she yelled to her kids "HEY GIRLS!, STAY IN THE BACK YARD OKAY?..................(No answer)...................UNLESS YOU'RE IN THE HOUSE"

I don't think she knows exactly where they are.

Sweet little T-shirt Tutorial

Before:

Step One: Cut out a circle.

Step Two: Sew big stitches around the rim of the circle.

Step Three: Gather the stitch in the center.

Step Four: Close and tie knot.

Step Five: Sew on to a shirt or cardigan and TA DA!

So many patterns and possibilities.

Remember to use Fray Check on the edges if the fabric frays, so when you wash it it wont unravel. Lay flat to dry to keep the form looking the best.

These are called "YoYo's" and you can look up all sorts of ways to be creative with them.
